"It felt so good just to be held." ~Luce

-THIS IS A VERY OLD REVIEW-
Fallen: By Laruen Kate
#1 of Series
Publisher: Random house
Pages: 496 (of sheer disappointment)
Written in third person
There’s something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.

Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price’s attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah. He’s the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.

Even Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce – he goes out of his way to make that very clear. But she can’t let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, Luce has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret...even if it kills her.

I did not enjoy this book. honeslty. im not a picky reader, but this i did not enjoy one bit. when you look at the cover fallen it looks like an amzing book, also when you read the short description its sounds amazing..well its far from that. first complaint is its written in third person (which I am VERY picky about) a book that is 3rd person has to be really well written to get and keep my attention (such as City of bones) and Fallen completely failed at keeping it.

I normally don't write bad reviews, and i hate writing them, but this book has an exception. I was SO excited to read Fallen, I knew when going into this book that the reviews were on either one side of the fence or the other..meaning either the person loved it or hated it. Fallen had a lot of potential to be amazing, but while reading the book all i could think of is ..1)wow there is way to many description on the scenry its giving me a headache 2) Luce is creepy obsessed with Daniel...I don't care how 'romantic' some people think this book is...I did not find it the least bit romantic.

This book was not HORRIBLE, I have read worst (much worst) but i can say I still didnt like it and will not be reading Torment, or Passion. Please no one be upset over my review, I understand that there are thousands of people out there that LOVE the Fallen series, I for one am not one of them though. (I was hoping to be...)

Random Note: I am getting so sick of all these Angel books (the ones that fail at least..such as this one)

Purchase Fallen: Amazon . Amazon UK

I've always thought, since I first saw this book, that I would hate it. The cover's drawn me in enough to buy it though so I'll probably read it at some point this month. Seriously beautiful cover.

I know all of the books in this series are so beautiful! I SO badly wanted to like this series ):
but who knows you might enjoy this series, you better post a review when you finish it!(:

I post a review of every book I read!

Haley @ YA-Aholic said...

Well good(:, I really need to catch up on my reviews. I have read so many boks, but wrote very few reviews. I swear i have to be in like a certain mood to write them ahahaha

Unknown said...

I find that's the same with many bloggers, except me! I love collecting reviews, I think I like collecting them more than reading more books! I'm weird like that!

At least it'll mean I'll get better at reviews... XD

Haley @ YA-Aholic said...

Hahah there is always positives(: I'm thinking tonight i just might sit down and finally get down all the reviews i have been putting off for so damn long lol (:

Haha I was so disappoonted with this book, I so badly wanted to LOVE this series ):

Ps. OMG! I know I hate how similar all of them are.):

@Elias: If YA-Aholic says she's finished reading a book she probably has. There no need to be childish because she has a different opinion on the book than you.
So she made a typo. You try writing really long reviews and not making any mistakes. It's not easy. :P

Unknown said...

It's called being polite. And yes, I have read the book.

http://comacalm.blogspot.com/2011/03/description-theres-something-achingly.html

*sigh*
Kids these days. When I was younger... *mutters to herself*

Haley @ YA-Aholic said...

Oh wow I have been missing out on my blog posts; I didn’t even notice this whole exciting conversation. (:

@ Elias: Please stop being immature, I read the book. Yes it made sense, but to me it was still very annoying to read. I am not bashing on anyone that liked this book, you’re taking MY review, MY opinion like it's a personal attack at you.

-I do realize though that this review should’ve been more in depth of examples and why I didn’t enjoy it, I can see why one would think I didn’t finish it. I just hate writing bad reviews so when I do write one there very Vague on details and for that I apologize.

On the note of typos, I don’t care. One spelling typo, it’s not the end of the world.

@ ComaCalm: Thank you for standing up for my review. Your review of Fallen is amazing btw, also on that note thank you for respecting my opinion on not enjoying Fallen even though you did enjoy it. (:

Haley @ YA-Aholic said...

Elias you started this by getting (sounding?) offended about my review of Fallen. I said in the review I didn’t want anyone to get offended because everyone has their own opinion and I respect that, but you did anyways. Another note is that when it comes to the typo I would have appreciated your point out of my typo, if the manner you pointed it out had been polite which it wasn’t. Another thing is, idk why you’re freaking out still Elias, I even said that I agreed with you and I can understand why it would seem I hadn’t read this book and I apologized for that I am much too vague in negative reviews.

HollyRose: Like I said above if you had pointed out my typo I would have appreciated it, the way Elias did just came off rude to me though. We have read the book, I understood completely why all the stuff I didn’t like happened but like I said it still didn’t make me like the book. That is MY opinion and I respect that you have your own and liked it.

HALEY.

It's more that you come across as very defensive and snappy, like you're trying to start an argument, Elias. Just calm down a little and don't be rude and everything will be fine...
Oh and Elias, your typos are worse than horriable. So you might want to take that into consideration.

Also, 'HollyRose' and 'Jazzy' you're clearly Elias, that's just silly. No-one's fooled. Silly child.

Unfortunately I'd recommend to Haley that she block these people before the situation gets even more silly. If that's even possible!

Oh, how childish...

Haley @ YA-Aholic said...

Thank you ComaCalm. I couldn't find a way to block them (her) from commenting on my posts, but i marked them as spam (: lol

it's funny how everyone stopped commenting in like March and know started to comment again? Hahaha whatever!
I liked this review!!! But whaaattt... you didn't like it?!?!? oh well it does say in your profile that your like in college... so maybe you didn't like it because you have already read lots of other love stories? I loved it and this was like the first romance book i've ever read and liked! Anyway your totally right about the scenery details---- too many of them ! I mean I guess Lauren wants us to be familar with the setting... but we get the point!!
Hahaha! It's ok... there are other romance/teen/love series out there.... that are probably better !!! I just haven't read them yet!!

Unknown said...

GirlyBlogger, you're clearly the ~cough~idiot~cough~ nice intelligent person that has been spamming Haley's wall. Do you have a crush on her or something? Leave it be...

Sabrina said...

Haha! No no! I am not the internet troll/ spammer...!
Were doing book projects in class and me and this annoying kid ( boy) both had to read Fallen and then we needed to read reviews over it. and the kid told me about the ya-holic website and to read Haley's review over it. He said someone named Coma ( obviously you) and a girl, Haley got into an "argument" or something over the book.
But the kid was stupid about it.... he's an internet troll... and the **cough- cough** idiot.... and he probably does have a crush on Haley! hahaha!

Unknown said...

Oh dear. You're a very silly child...

Sabrina said...

hmm... you know what ? I am taking that as a compliment!
Oh and I like your review of Fallen too! And your name? coma- calm.... interesting indeed!

Unknown said...

No, ComaCalm. not coma-calm, not Comacalm. Just ComaCalm. One word, two capitals. Completely unique.

I want a chicken kiev...

Sabrina said...

oops! sorry ComaCalm! got it and yes pretty unique!! haha!

ugh! chicken kiev's seem hard to make..... and I would probably burn the house down if I tried!
Sorry can't help you there!

Haley @ YA-Aholic said...

How many profile things do you have? Elias/Jazzy/Holly and even in this post you switched from girly blogger to lovely hearts?

Oh well.

Anyways I remember the first paranormal romance book i read and it was the Immortal series by Alyson Noel, and i also thought they were SO SO good....but once i started reading other books i realized that, that series wasn't all that great really compared to others.

once you really get into reading, books you once liked you will realize weren't that good.

I'm not saying Fallen was bad, just not my taste.

Did anyone else find Where She Went disappointing or was it just me? Me and Christina are hosting a read-along and I was hoping that I would enjoy it so I could squee about it during...

I know! I am trying to find a good book series ... and I tried hush hush by becca fitzpatrick but the next book comes out next year... and I am wayyyyy too impatient!
but yea the angels books are getting boring...! And I not in the mood for vampires ( yet... maybe someday).
And I just read Where She Went and found it to be boring.... ??? Did you like it?

Unknown said...

Did you read If I Stay first? WSW is a companion for it. As I said, I found it disappointing.

http://comacalm.blogspot.com/2011/04/where-she-went-gayle-forman.html

As for Hush Hush, the sequel is Crescendo, which is out now. The third part is out next year.

http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/book/9781847387196/Crescendo

Have you tried the Study Series? They're pretty good. I also like The Immortals (not a Vampire book)

Haley @ YA-Aholic said...

Hush Hush is good; I must say though that it’s not really my favorite series. (Patch irritates me)

Other AMAZING series are:

The Mortal Instruments series by: Cassandra Clare
-This series has everything paranormal wise in it. This series is also practically perfect.

The Iron Fey series by: Julie Kagawa
-This is a Fae/Fairy series (Which I'm Oh So In Love With)

Need series by: Carrie Jones
-This is also fae, but has some shape shifters in it also. This is a good series, if you’re going to go with Fae go for The Iron series.

Hex Hall series by: Rachel Hawkins
-This series is really good; it has a mix of all paranormal.

and other good books that ARE going to be series but haven’t come out with the second one yet (and are not Angel/Vampire books) are:
Nightshade by Andrea Cremer
The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter
Tiger's Curse by Colleen Houck
Across the Universe by Beth Revis
Paranormalcy by Kiersten White
Firelight by Sophie Jordan

Sabrina said...

Hahaha thanks! I am going to try to read lots of these books you and ComaCalm recommended And I have read Crescendo ( book 2 to hush hush) and I thought it was pretty good!!
I am still trying to find a good romantic series!

I liked this book but by no means loved it. Out of curiosity, have you read Evermore by Alyson Noel? I found that it had a very similar plot but the guy just came across as really creepy to me.

I am your newest follower so just wandering through... :)

Haley @ YA-Aholic said...

I have read almost that wholes series, well besides everlasting. (: and yes haha the men are creepy! I dont like Damen...but Jude...yummmmyyy (((:

Thank you for following! I followed yours too (:

Unknown said...

I haven't met Jude yet, I will have to wait and see. :)

Haley @ YA-Aholic said...

omg...hit me up on here when you meet Jude!!!!! :D

Unknown said...

Met Jude two days ago but I have finally begun to develop some loyalty toward Damen now that he is acting less creepy, so I am conflicted (Jude is definitely yummy), but Ever is really ticking me off. I can't but feel that both guys could do better. Sigh. I will say this, I really want to know what happens next. :)

I completely agree, I did not like this book very much either. I found myself bored and borderline confused. Overall, I think there could have been something great to the story line as the beginning really drew me in, but that it was not executed very well.
