( it was amazing!)

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
Sure! I am a mother of two, and wife to the most amazing supportive man I could have ever hoped to find. I own and run a preschool part time. I teach voice lessons after school. And of course, I write. People ask me all the time how I have time, and the short answer is- I don’t. Things are left undone, and I totally pay someone to come clean my bathrooms and mop my floors. Embarrassing, but true.

What inspired you to write Wings of Arian?

The inspiration for the world without evil has been told on quite a few blogs. So instead- just because I like Haley- I am going to tell you the very beginning of this story. (Insert a great story telling mist rolling though, here) Once upon a time…. A lady I once knew insisted that I read the Twilight series. I agreed and she brought me the first book. Being a very fast reader and a person who has to know the ending or she dies, I read a book in about four to six hours. I was getting really twitchy waiting for the next book in the series. I asked her if I could just borrow all of them, which I read and returned to her a couple of days later. She was this funny little lady with a thick Spanish accent and she was going on and on about how she could not BELIEVE how fast I read, blah blah blah, and then she says, “You should write a book!” I blinked at her, and had to bite my tongue to keep from telling her how ridiculous that comment was. Reading quickly has absolutely nothing to do with writing a book! But for the next two months, everyday- multiple times a day, I would hear that little Hispanic accent whispering in my head, “You should write a book, you should write a book.” It was incessant! So finally I gave in and started writing. Turns out, I CAN write. Who knew?

If you could describe Wings of Arian in three words, what words would you use?
Pure Fantastical Fun!

Is there a message in Wings of Arian that you want readers to grasp?

Believe in yourself!!

I love how Emane and Kiora butt heads in the beginning, they are so much alike, but at the same time complete opposites! Did anyone you know inspire Emane or Kiora’s personality?

All my characters pull from those around me, although rarely as a whole. I will usually piece together a little of this and a little of that for my characters. So the answer to your question is yes, and no. HA!

Wings of Arian has very unique character names, how did you go about picking names for everyone?

Ahhh names. Stab me in the eye! I got so tired of trying to pick names every time I wrote in a new character. So I sat down one night and spent hours going through name websites. I poured over unique names, foreign names, fantasy names….lots and lots of names. I made a list of the ones I was attracted to and fit the world I had created. Then when a new character would pop up I would pull out my list and pick which one I liked the best.

Do you have a favorite scene or part from Wings of Arian, if so what is it?

I absolutely love the scene at the end where Emane is teaching Kiora to swordfight. So flipping cute!  (Am I allowed to say that when I wrote it? Hmmmmmmm…) I also really loved about any scene where Drustan harasses Emane. So much fun to write! How about you Haley? What’s YOUR favorite?  ;)
Me- OMG!!! The swordfight part was my favorite part!! It was so cute, I was giggling with happiness during that whole scene ha! I also like any part where Drustan or Arturo give Emane a hard time, so funny(:

What can your future readers expect when they pick up Wings of Arian?

Wings of Arian is a fantasy that appeals to a wide age range. It is clean enough for the younger age group and entertaining enough to appeal to everyone else. It is a fantasy, so expect lots of magic, dragons, epic battles and of course, love.

Thank you Devri so much for taking the time to do an interview with YA-Aholic! :D

Kiora thought she had never heard a lie until she was sixteen. But she was wrong. Her entire existence was based on nothing but. She thought that evil did not exist. Lie. That magic was not real. Lie. And that the land of Meros was all there was. One more lie.

With Aleric telling her that evil is knocking on the door and that she is the only one who can stop them she has a choice to make. Refuse, or start the wildest most painful ride of her life.
She reluctantly dips her toe into her new existence of magic and threads, dragons and shapeshifters, and the person who wants to take control of it all: the evil Dralazar.

However, this journey was never meant to be hers alone. She will be accompanied by a Protector. To her disbelief, and utter irritation they name the hotheaded, stubborn, non -magical, (albeit gorgeous) Prince Emane. They will have to trust each other with their lives, but right now Kiora would settle for a non hostile conversation.

And now it comes down to this, If you had never heard a lie, would you know when you heard one? Is knowing good from evil innate? Kiora finds herself having to decide who lives and who dies on those very questions.
