How garbage like this gets published is beyond me, this has to be the most pointless, repulsive novel I have ever read. If this novel TRIED to teach me anything it would be that people that do drugs, say fuck and shit every other word, and date 14 year old prostitutes are cool...oh and that woman we are the devils whose only purpose in life is to be sluts and ruin guys lives. ..

Title: Run the Game
Available formats: ebook, paperback
Details: published June 12th 2012
Source: wasted my own money on this garbage
Rating: Can I give this book negative stars?

In this gritty novel from the author of Exit Here and Dead End, love is a high-priced and dangerous game: Play or be played.Alexander didn’t believe in love at first sight until he met Patti. She’s the kind of girl you hear about in songs: gorgeous, feisty, and dangerous. Being with Patti is better than any high, and he can’t live without her.

But Alexander’s not the only one who wants to be with Patti. Burke ruthlessly takes what he wants and will kill to protect what is his. And he won’t let Patti go without a fight. If Patti and Alexander are going to be together, their love will come at a steep price. Because some promises are meant to be broken, and not all debts can be paid in cash….

*this review contains graphic language..you have been warned*

(you can read the goodreads description above about the book if you want, but it is completely misleading)

I have to be honest..originally I wasn't going to post a review of this book on my blog. But after having much thought I have decided to say..screw it and share my personal  OPINION about this novel Run the Game, which is whole heartily the worst book I have ever read.

This book is marked as for 16 years or older...I'm sorry but is whoever set this age limit crazy? Ya maybe very mature for their age 16 year old teens could read this, but a regular immature 16 year old reading this? That is just scary. This book consisted of nasty sex scenes, that are in no way shape or form 'sexy' or 'romantic' or even hot, there just disgusting, I had to skim through them just to stop myself from throwing up.

For example in one scene Alexander our 19 year old drug addict that is oh so cool, and Patti the coolest chick ever who is a 14 year old prostitute are having sex and Alexander tells us how it was so 'hot' cause he stuck his fingers in her ass and then in her mouth...I'm sorry I need a minute..

What the hell...and this is suppose to be meant for 16 year olds?!?!? Ya that's SUCH a great thing to teach teens.

Oh and lets quote from the novel now shall we? WE SHALL! Now this is Alexander talking about how he does sexual favor for guys for money to get drugs.

"The first time I ever got picked up at the A-LOT, I was nervous as f**k. I ain't a homo. Putting that shit in your mouth. Slamming or getting slammed up the ass. Shit makes me wanna f**king vomit. Sends f**king shivers down my spine and shit" ~Alexander

Congratulations. You were able to use 7 cuss words in that tiny paragraph.

I don't mind bad language in novels, really I could care less, (it actually bothers me if there are NO cuss words in a novel) but when it comes off like the author is seriously TRYING to make half of the book to be cuss words, it gets annoying. If I EVER heard anyone talk like the characters do in this novel I would probably go crazy, lose my mind, and punch them.

I could go on for days about what garbage this novel is..

Overall I just did not like this book at all, alot of people said on my goodread's review that his other books are better and this one was just awful, will I read his other books? Eh maybe..but will I ever BUY another Jason Myers book? Hell no. I will get his books from the library or borrow them or something. Never ever would I spend money on this authors work.

Oh and to the guy on goodreads who said I must be a very sheltered adult to not have liked this novel. As Alexander would probably say..Fuck you, and shit.

Wow. This one sounds disgusting. I'm not a fan of the shock factor, especially when there's not real reason for it. This sounds like one of those books that tries way too hard to push the limits and ends up being trashy and gross.

Thank you for the warning...

Yikes... this sounds like one of those books that is just trying to throw in a bunch of crap for shock value and thus get attention. I don't get offended very easily by cussing in books, even if the protagonist uses it a lot and it becomes a major part of the narrative-- BUT there has to be a legitimate reason for it, and it has to add something to the character development, setting, etc.

Take Precious (or originally Push), for example, by Sapphire-- It was an extremely gritty book with extremely explicit language and other things going on, including incest, rape, drugs, etc. BUT it was an awesome book because it told a very real and passionate story about never giving up and overcoming the situation you've been handed in life-- and it's written in a way that many teens can relate to. So it's definitely not that things need to be censored but they do need to be handled in a way that respects the reader, not just slinging around garbage to try and "shock" or gross out people as much as possible... I'm sorry you endured such an icky book, hopefully your next one will be MUCH much better!! :)

Thanks for this review! I'm pretty sure that, if I read it, I'd have the exact same opinions. I don't care for extreme sex in my books--allusions, fine, but straight out telling me... ummm, if I wanted a disgusting porno, you know... I'd buy it. But I won't.

Anyway, thanks for putting this on my DO NOT READ radar. I teach High School and am always looking for new books, and THIS IS NOT IT. Out skids don't need any more ideas...

Ok after that bit about the sex scene I was like hell no to that! I think i nearly threw up after reading that bit. Just no on so many levels. Thanks for putting up the review because now I know to stay away from this book. Far, far away.

I agree with that Lea said above about Push by Sapphire... that book made me want to vomit and murder her mother at the same time, yet I was never disgusted or worried that it wasn't the truth.

I took a look at Jason Myers website, and he seems like a crude person in general: his next book event banner says something like, "plan on drinking if you want to come" or some other crap. I mean, it's one thing to say there will be beverages or BYOB for an event, but come on. You're a YA novelist (supposedly) and you put something like that on a banner? Trash.

I checked out the reviews on Goodreads as well for this book, and it seems like a let down since a lot of people enjoyed his other book, Dead End. It's one thing to have a gritty/graphic novel about real life, but it's another to not be embarrassed with the work you put your name on - when clearly he should have been concerned. I also lost a lot of respect for Simon Pulse or whoever published it, that's just careless of them and reminds me that some publishing companies will do anything for the money, which ruins it for other publishers.

Thanks for sharing, even though the book was a waste of your time. :/

Thank you for sharing your honest opinion. It is exactly what a book blogger should do. It bothers me to see some so called book bloggers going crazy about each and every book! They should be true to themselves.

Ug! This sounds horrible! I hope it is not labeled YA!

Wow, it sounds like a horrible book indeed. But you know what? Thanks for the honest review, I think your opinion is very valid and it sure has helped me a lot.
I don't mind bad language at all, books that don't have it seem a little bit too thought, you know? Like the author is trying harder to be "good". But THAT sex scene is just way too much... especially for 16 year olds! That's just... yuck.

So, anyway, I'm sorry you had to read that. I'll make sure to stay away from it 'cause it doesn't sound like my cup of tea at all.

Haley, I kind of love how honest you are! I'm really glad that you ended up writing a review for this because you wouldn't want other readers to be wasting money on this book too, would you?! Thanks so much for your honest opinions. Sure, I like hot sexy scenes, but those quotes you showed are just NASTY. And ridiculous! Great review, Haley!

I have to say that this is by far THE BEST negative review I've read. It's refreshing because lately, I have felt that I was the only one posting negative reviews. (As book reviewers, our opinions matter even if we don't like it). Thanks for sharing!
