Staying in love can mean running away...

Two years after watching her kidnappers go to prison, Naomi Jensen is still in love with one of them. Jesse will be released in a few years, and Naomi knows college is the perfect distraction while she waits. But when her new friend Finn makes her question what is right and what is wrong, she begins to wonder if Jesse is the one for her...until she discovers he's out on parole. Naomi must sort through her confusion to figure out where love and freedom truly lie-in Finn, who has no connections to her past, or Jesse, who has just asked her to run away with him.
“... Other students lived on campus and got drunk at parties. Other students dated and graduated and got married and led normal lives. She wanted to marry an ex-con and pretend being kidnapped had been a normal thing she could forget about. ...”

What a page turner! Going into Pieces I was nervous, book 1 (The Breakaway, see review here) was one of my favorite reads of 2012, and while I was super excited about there being a sequel, I was concerned I wasn't going to enjoy it as much since it was about Naomi dealing with the after math of the kidnapping and not her actually being hostage anymore. Thankfully though I enjoyed Pieces just as much as I did The Breakaway!

Now while Pieces is definitely not the same as The Breakaway it was still equally as good and intense. In Pieces we get to see the struggles Naomi is facing with the aftermath of the kidnapping and her trying to be strong and wait for Jesse to be released. We also meet a new boy named Finn who has nothing to do with her past, but could be the future she needs.

I have to admit Finn was my favorite part of Pieces! I thought he was such a great addition as a character, he was the sweet boy next door kind of guy which I love. He seemed to genuinely care about Naomi. Jesse on the other hand I did not enjoy in Pieces as much, he seemed to have changed since The Breakaway, and I guess that makes sense when he just got out of being in prison and given the other circumstances. Although he was one of Naomi's captors, I do believe he also wanted to make Naomi happy, and genuinely cared about her.

Besides Finn I also very much enjoyed Naomi in Pieces, I felt like she had grown as a character tremendously since The Breakaway. She grew up alot, and even throughout Pieces you still see her growing as a character. She became a stronger, more independent version of herself.

Overall this was an amazing addition to The Breakaway, you can read Pieces on it's own, but I highly suggest reading The Breakaway before hand (since I loved it so much). Michelle writes amazing stories of struggle, and makes you really feel for the characters. This is a series I would recommend to anyone looking for a different kind of contemporary romance.

Awesome review! I read The Breakaway back in 2012 as well and absolutely LOVED it! I was kind of nervous to see where Argyle would take the story too, but I think she chose the right way. This book really was as thrilling as the first one, and I agree with you on Naomi and Jesse - he did change. But for some reason I'm not really a huge fan of Finn - idk, maybe because Naomi was already with Jesse, and I know Finn said he didn't want to get inbetween them, but I still feel like that's what he did. But, other than that, I really enjoyed this book as well. Awesome review!

Well, awesome review
My review of Pieces and The Breakaway is coming on February 23rd so I would be glad if you stop by Haley!
Anyway, I gave both books four stars and I really liked them. The Breakaway was intriguing, since it was the first book I actually read about kidnapping. Pieces was much better of course
Just like you, I didn't really like Jesse in this one. I felt like there was some trace of a criminal left on him, maybe from the time of jail. So I was pretty happy with the ending. I LOVED, absolutely ADORED Finn. He was the character that was missing in the story before. So sweet and kind and.....
Anyways, this series was a great and it's sad that it's over
GREAT review, though!

I like it when you read books on their own without having to read the first. Still doesn't look like its for me.

All these student parties don't lead to anything good. This I know from my own experience. I met my ex-husband there. A month of partying and drinking, and then I realize I'm pregnant. A very hasty wedding, and then 6 years of some semblance of life and family. I filed for divorce https://onlinedivorcer.com/online-divorce-texas, we were divorced quickly and after that I felt alive for the first time since my student days.
So be careful with student parties.
