......................................................................................................................
It happened like this. I was stolen from an airport. Taken from everything I knew, everything I was used to. Taken to sand and heat, dirt and danger. And he expected me to love him.

This is my story.

A letter from nowhere.

Sixteen year old Gemma is kidnapped from Bangkok airport and taken to the Australian Outback. This wild and desolate landscape becomes almost a character in the book, so vividly is it described. Ty, her captor, is no stereotype. He is young, fit and completely gorgeous. This new life in the wilderness has been years in the planning. He loves only her, wants only her. Under the hot glare of the Australian sun, cut off from the world outside, can the force of his love make Gemma love him back?

The story takes the form of a letter, written by Gemma to Ty, reflecting on those strange and disturbing months in the outback. Months when the lines between love and obsession, and love and dependency, blur until they don't exist - almost.
.............................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Stolen by Lucy Christopher is a beautifully breathtaking and scary story about 16 year old Gemma and how she was kidnapped. Ty had been watching Gemma for years, he wanted and only loved her, Gemma had no idea Ty even existed until he steals her away from the Bangkok airport and takes her far into the Australian outback where civilization is nowhere to be seen. Gemma quickly realizes that to survive she must depend on Ty, but can Ty force Gemma to love him back? Will Gemma want to go back home to the city when she has the chance to escape, or will she fall in love with the dying outback? This is Stolen, a Letter to my Captor. Written in 2nd person by Gemma, to Ty recalling everything that happened from the moment he stole her away, to the very end.

Stolen is easily one of the most beautifully written novels I have ever read, readers will be mesmerized by the scenery of the desolate outback of Australia that Lucy Christopher writes so perfectly. The raw emotions that Gemma feels throughout the story will leave readers haunted and on the edge of their seat wondering what is going to happen to Gemma next.

Gemma and Ty were each remarkable characters. There’s Gemma who is going through so much being a hostage out in the middle of nowhere, readers will find themselves connecting with her and feeling every emotion she is feeling. Including her confusion over how she feels about Ty and the outback. Then there is Ty, while Gemma is the narrator of the story, Ty is the character that really caught my attention. Readers will find themselves hating, and loving Ty at the same time. Readers will want to hate him for kidnapping Gemma, but then love him for how he treats Gemma and how passionate he is about the dying outback. Ty is supposed to be the villain of the story, yet Gemma, and readers will find themselves understanding him, and maybe even accepting him.

Stolen isn’t an action packed thriller, it’s a psychological story about Gemma going through stockholm syndrome. (Stockholm syndrome is a psychological condition when a hostage after time will feel sympathy or affection towards their captor) While this story is not action packed, it’s still easily a read that will keep readers on the edge of their seat. Stolen is one of my personal favorite reads, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a beautifully written story, dealing with stockholm syndrome.
Pros:
  • Beautifully written scenery
  • Great narrating
  • Interesting  characters
  • Read that really makes you think and question how you feel about what's going on in the story
Cons:
  • Nothing, besides the fact that even though the ending was done beautifully, it was not PERSONALLY the ending I wanted

I've checked out this book from the library what feels like a billion times but I never got to reading it. I'm regretting that now. Stockholm Syndrome is creepy, but oddly fascinating.

I haven't heard of this book before now but you have me really curious! I really enjoy books that touch on psychological issues and it sounds like this one was done well.

A fabulous review Haley :-)
