Growing up the way I did, you’d think I’d be more screwed up than what I actually am.
Soon as I turned sixteen, I left that bump in the road I called home and took my chances on the street.
Best decision I ever made.
Now, at the age of twenty six, I’m educated, employed and damn good at my job.
My friends have become my family. Like me, they know what it’s like to grow up unloved.
But the saying is true.
The world makes way for those who know where they are going.
That’s me.
I know where I’m going and I’ll get there eventually. On my own terms and at my own pace.
But then there’s him.
I feel his eyes on me. I see him hiding in plain sight. He watches me.
He makes me feel.
It’s unconventional.
But it’s real.

I’m sure you’re wondering how a person falls in love with their stalker.
So am I.

This isn’t a story.
This is my life.

this is NOT a YA novel, continue reading review if you're 18+/an Adult (:

Sidenote: This is more of a 'rant' than an actual review

Serves me right for not reading any reviews before buying and reading this book. I normally read reviews before I buy a book, but Raw I bought on a whim. Big. Mistake. Going into this book I thought it would be an intense psychological read about a girl who falls in love with her stalker, something similar to the stockholm syndrome books I have read in the past, something that would take some studying before an author could write it, something that would totally blow my mind, something that would be interesting.

What did I get though instead? A novel about a weak, idiotic woman, that for whatever reason has the hots for a guy that is very obviously a bad guy. The sex scenes were terrible, every friendship and relationship felt very awkward, fake, and very forced by the author. Nothing felt natural in this novel. I really disliked 50 Shades and I have to say, I disliked Raw WAY more than 50.

Now lets talk about what my main problem of this novel was, and that was Lexi. Lexi is referred to as a strong character through out the novel, How the hell is she a strong character? She was easily manipulated throughout Raw, she submitted to Twitch constantly with barely any protest, Twitch and her would be having sex, she would tell him to stop and he wouldn't then she would just give in and 'enjoy' it, wtf is up with all these novels praising woman being disrespected and literally being treated like a dog? Lexi has to be one of the most pathetic characters I have ever read! She was idiotic, awkward, oh and she was very judgmental of other woman too, which to me is a big NO NO, you can't be sleeping with some guy that is STALKING you Lexi and then get the right to judge other woman. Also don't even get me started on how she thinks she is falling in love with Twitch when she literally knows NOTHING about him besides the fact that he's a stalker, drug dealer, rich, handsome, and a sociopath.

Ugh I could go on, but I feel since I didn't finish the novel I should stop now. With that I will leave you with a quick pro/cons list for Raw.

  • The promising summary
  • Weak, pathetic,annoying main character
  • Meh sex scenes
  • All relationships/friendships felt very unnatural and forced
  • Unimportant information told to readers
  • Terrible 'romance'
  • Does the whole 'this is basically rape, but oh well I'm starting to enjoy it' thing
  • Didn't like a single character

Now mind you I'm in the very tiny percentage of people that did not like Raw, so if it sounds like something you would enjoy, totally still pick it up!! Fans of 50 Shades may enjoy this.

Wow, this sounds pretty dang bad. I really hate that it seems to basically promote rape. Not good.

It's a good thing I don't read erotica in the first place, because this sounds like a disaster. I really don't like the portrayal of such 'relationships' it's so unhealthy and ugh.

Oh no Haley! This sounds terrible, it definitely wouldn't be for me.

I hope the next book you read is much better.

I'm sorry this wasn't your kind of book, it doesn't much sound like one I'd enjoy either.

What kind of name is Twitch!? Bad names turn me off. I also hate heroines that are described as strong but are really weak. Ugh! It sucks that this one turned out to be a disaster.

Over 1500 reviews! It makes me sick to think of the $$ she is making on this. I don't read erotica either, but why are books exploiting unhealthy relationships so popular anymore? Do women really have that low of an opinion of themselves to allow someone to treat them so poorly? Just don't get it...although 1500 plus people obviously disagree with me :(

@Sherry Gammon

I feel the same way. It's the same with books like beautiful disaster. They are extremely popular but I really hated it due to it's abusive nature. I can't for the life of me understand what women find romantic about it. I just always get angry at the book and want to slap some sense in to the main character.

I've checked out the book and goodreads and It's weird that so many of my friends on goodreads gave this 4/5 star reviews. It sounds horrible.
Great review. I hope you have better luck with your next book.

On a side note, I really like your blog and I´m sure I will be dropping by in the future :)
