Charley Davidson is a part-time private investigator and full-time grim reaper. Meaning, she sees dead people. Really. And it's her job to convince them to "go into the light." Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she's been having about an entity who has been following her all her life...and it turns out he might not be dead after all. In fact, he might be something else entirely. But what does he want with Charley? And why can't she seem to resist him? And what does she have to lose by giving in?

This series has been recommended to me numerous times by other book bloggers/readers, and I can honestly say I have no idea what took me so long to pick it up. This is a series well worth the hype it receives.
Darynda Jones’s novel First Grave on the Right was everything I look for in an adult urban fantasy novel. It had hot romantic tension, strong personalities from each character, mystery galore and most importantly it had an absolutely amazing main character in Charley Davidson that really pulls you into the story.
Charley Davidson the main character is what really made First Grave on the Right such an enjoyable read. This is a main character that was witty, spontaneous, caring, and downright hysterical. She is a character that readers will easily fall in love with.
Along with Charley we also have Cookie who is her best friend and equally hilarious. Then there are the two men of the story Garrett who’s a cop, who comes off as a rather rude character towards Charley, but he seems to have some possible underline feelings for her. Then there is Reyes Alexander Farrow, he is just a huge ball of mystery, and also a bit scary even once readers finish the book they still will find themselves confused as to what’s going on with him. While Reyes and Garrett are not the main characters, they’re the characters that are going to intrigue the readers to pick up book two sooner rather than later.
First Grave on the Right was overall such a delight to read! If you’re someone that enjoys adult urban fantasy/paranormal novels with a good amount of humor thrown in then this is a series you cannot miss out on! Not only was First Grave on the Right a hysterical read, but the mystery aspect of it was equally amazing. Readers can guess all they want throughout the story, but in the end, you still have no idea what’s really going on. Highly recommend!

This is probably one of my favourite books. I completely agree that there are definitely some laugh out loud moments and some of the one liners were hysterical!
